Gipsy Kings to headline inaugural Kiss Kiss festival in November – Texx and the City

Posted on July 23, 2025

When Cape Town’s beloved watering hole and social epicentre, Blondie, boarded up its front with giant wooden panels, a good portion of the Mother City went into a flat panic. Were they closed down? And WTF was “Bamboleo” supposed to mean?

Fast forward a few weeks and we’ve got our answer, as the team behind Liefde by die Dam, Bacardi Holiday Club, Texas, Brian Lara and yes, Blondie, launch Kiss Kiss, the inaugural food, music and general good vibes festival that will play host to the Gipsy Kings on SA soil.

I for one am fucking PUMPED. Growing up the Gipsy Kings’ soundtrack was a staple at every Italian function I went to, and their legacy has only gotten more rich and more revered with time.

I whatsapped one of the owners of Blondie to get his “official word” on booking the iconic band and he told me, “Who doesn’t want to scream ‘Bamboleo’ at the top of their lungs with a tequila slammer in hand?” Damn straight.

And this is only the beginning. Expect more band and DJ announcements, flanked by the unveiling of different food and drinks vendors.

Tickets drop 29 July and they’ll go fast, so get readt.
